SOL emerges from my developing MITOLOGIA project and my ongoing research into sacred imagery, devotion and artistic lineage.

The work draws upon the tradition of the votive object, with a particular connection to the devotional culture of Naples and the extraordinary sculptural language of Giuseppe Sanmartino, whose Veiled Christ in the Cappella Sansevero became an important point of reference during my research.

This connection also resonates with my research into my ancestor, the Neapolitan painter Fedele Fischetti, whose work and artistic context have become increasingly significant to my practice.

The title SOL, Latin for sun, introduces another layer: light as presence, illumination and transformation. Through colour, gesture and accumulated paint, the object moves between painting, sculpture and offering.

SOL marks an expanding understanding of painting within MITOLOGIA: not simply an image of the sacred, but an object capable of holding devotion, memory and inherited cultural histories.
