THE ALCHEMY OF BEING
notes from the studio, 📍 Cotswolds, Uk
Can you let the colour speak before you decide what it means?
Can you make the mark without knowing where it will lead?
Can you remain when the answer has not yet arrived?
This, for me, is Solutio.
Not forcing.
Not fixing.
Not interfering.
But allowing.
Letting something dissolve so something else can emerge.
And there’s an almost unreasonable faith required for this.
Maybe a little madness, too.
The kind of madness that believes in something that cannot yet be seen.
The kind of faith that says:
I don’t know what’s on the other side of this.
But I know there’s something.
So I paint.
Not because I have arrived.
But because I am moving through.
Because life itself is ritual.
Everything I encounter becomes symbol.
Everything I experience enters the body, and the body witnesses.
The joy.
The fear.
The uncertainty.
The longing.
The pressure.
The faith.
The doubt.
The peaks.
The troughs.
The strange beauty of being human.
And perhaps painting is simply the place where all of this can be witnessed.
Where experience becomes gesture.
Emotion becomes colour.
Chaos becomes form.
What cannot be articulated might yet be felt.
